For several miles we followed the main canal towards the Rhine. We even raced a barge and won!!!
The cycling was really easy this day, except for the occasional spill, blood and cursing from Brian E. We ate apple cake, cycled mostly in shade, watched a bridge rise and fall (to allow the passage of ocean going ships), ate cherries and generally meandered the day away towards our destination in Delft.
Vanessa was really looking forward to Delft. It was written up in the Lonely Planet guide as one of the most picturesque towns in all of Holland. Sorry to say but no - it was really quite forgettable, compared to the other places we visited.
But the Hotel Leeuwenbrug was wonderful - very oldy worldy - with beautiful balconies overlooking the canal and a huge bath for needed soaking!

We stop for scrumptious apple cake.
There's always a windmill if you look hard enough.
